Community, Gardening and Green Spaces Celebrated at International Women’s Day Event in Mold

Visitors gathered at The Woodworks Garden Centre and Cafe, part of the P&A Group, on Sunday 8th March to celebrate International Women’s Day with an inspiring morning of discussion centred on gardening, wellbeing and the power of community.

Held in The Woodworks Emporium, the event welcomed guests from across the region to hear from two expert speakers who shared their insights into the social and personal benefits of green spaces.

Gardening presenter Sioned Edwards, well known from the popular ‘Garddio a Mwy’ programme on S4C, spoke about the transformative power of community-led gardening initiatives. Drawing on her experience working with gardening groups, she highlighted how shared outdoor projects can strengthen communities, support mental health and help people build lasting friendships.

Guests also heard from Professor Helen Stalford from the University of Liverpool’s Centre for People’s Justice in the School of Law & Social Justice. Professor Stalford explored why gardens and green spaces are vital not only for individuals but also for institutions and communities. She discussed the importance of accessible green environments for students, employees and the wider public, emphasising the positive impact these spaces have on wellbeing, creativity and connection.

Margaret Morgan, who attended the talk, said:

“The talk with Sioned and Helen was such an uplifting way to spend International Women’s Day. They were inspiring, and really highlighted how something as simple as gardening can bring people together and support wellbeing. I left feeling motivated, connected and full of ideas.”

The event was free to attend, with visitors invited to make a small charitable donation, to the company annual chosen charities. The morning provided an opportunity for attendees to come together, reflect on the theme of International Women’s Day, and celebrate the role that nature and community play in improving wellbeing.
