P&A Group Marks 40 Years with ‘Frightfully 40’ Celebration at The Woodworks Garden Centre
Family-run timber business, P&A Group, celebrates four decades of growth, community spirit, and charitable giving with a “spooktacular” event at The Woodworks Garden Centre, Mold.
The P&A Group of Companies marked a major milestone as it celebrated 40 years in business with a vibrant community event at The Woodworks Garden Centre & Café. The aptly named “Frightfully 40 at The Woodworks” brought together hundreds of visitors, families, and local organisations for a day of fun, food, and fundraising.

The business was founded in 1985 by Malcolm Morgan, who relocated from Scotland with his wife, Margaret. With a rich family heritage in the timber industry, generations of the Morgan family operated five sawmills in Scotland and three in Ireland between 1900 and 1949, bringing years of expertise to North Wales.
In 1985, Malcolm Morgan (current chairman Steve Morgan’s father) started a small timber pallet business, supplying various industries across North Wales and the North West. Over the years, the company has evolved into a diverse group of businesses that now includes Zest Outdoor Living, a leading supplier of award winning timber garden products selling to Garden Centres UK wide, P&A Pallets & Packaging, and the award-winning Woodworks Garden Centre & Café in Mold. What began as a modest family-run enterprise has grown into a multi-division company employing over 200 people continuing to be guided by the same values of craftsmanship, sustainability, and community that defined its early years.
Today, Steve Morgan, P&A Group chairman, remains committed to leading a sustainable organisation that is proud of its heritage and dedicated to delivering the very best for its customers.
Steve Morgan commented on the company’s remarkable journey:
“It’s been a fantastic event, and wonderful to be celebrating 40 years! It’s incredible to look back at how far we’ve come since 1985. Today, my brother David and I, have been reflecting on our journey and we’re very proud of what we have achieved. It’s our people, our community, and our customers who have made this journey possible. A special thank you to our mother, Margaret Morgan, for joining us today to cut the cake”
Saturday’s event saw families enjoying a lively programme of activities, featuring children’s art workshops, face painting, live music, spooky games, a treasure hunt, 40% off everything across the Garden Centre and Café and a dog show judged by North Clwyd Animal Rescue (NCAR) one of the charities chosen by P&A Group employees for 2025.
Simon Field, Garden Centre Cafe manager added:
“Lovely to see lots of families enjoying the day – it was very busy. This event truly captured what the P&A Group stands for: great teamwork, community spirit, and a commitment to giving back on this special day.”
Since 2010, employees across the business have raised more than £175,000 for charity through marathons, bungee jumps, mountain climbs, and other challenges, with a goal of reaching £200,000 by the end of this anniversary year. Charities supported have included Dementia UK, Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith Children’s Hospices, Cancer Research UK, and MIND, among many others.
The Woodworks Garden Centre, located on the original P&A site in Mold, has since become a cornerstone of the local community – a place where gardening, sustainability, and hospitality come together. As the P&A Group looks ahead to the future, it remains proud of its heritage – continuing to craft sustainable timber products, deliver outstanding service, and nurture the local communities that have supported its journey from the very beginning.
